My thoughts:

12 Steps to Becoming a More Organized Woman, by Lane P. Jordan, was excellent.  I do not know about you, but I could certainly improve my organization skills.

There are lots of subjects covered in this book, like health, studying the Bible, and how to manage the details.  I know that I could spend many times reading this book and still not glean all the useful information available.

One of the best parts of this book was the “Bringing home Step…” (put in one of the twelve steps).  I enjoyed the questions and ways to apply it in my own life.  I am looking forward to putting my plans into action.

This is a book all women should read and then implement into their own lives.  I highly recommend it!

Picture of the Week! (January 26, 2014)- Porcupine Potato

B received some science experiment cards for his birthday.  One of the cards explained how to put a straw into a potato.
B decided he wanted to make a porcupine out of his potato.  He had a lot of fun.

Deb DeArmond shows how the best mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationships should be in Related by Chance, Family by Choice.

DeArmond has a good relationship with her daughters-in-law and you will see that as your read this book.  If you use the scripture and your relationship with God, then you will be able to improve your relationship with the other woman.

Some of the chapters are “Leaving and Cleaving: What Exactly Does That Mean,” “Women of the Word: Ruth and Naomi,” and Digging Out: How Big Is Your Shovel?”  Each chapter ends with a self-assessment, “Plan of Action,” prayer, and “What Would Ruth and Naomi Do? paragraph.”

Excerpt from the book!

About the Author-

Deb DeArmond is married, has three sons, three daughters-in-law and currently lives in Texas.  She owns a leadership training and coaching practices company.  She is a speaker and is a cofounder of My Purpose Now (www.mypurposenow.org).  Her website is www.debdearmond.com

My thoughts-

I thought Related by Chance, Family by Choice, by Deb DeArmond was an excellent and pertinent book.

I am blessed with a good relationship with my mother-in-law, but I have heard and read many stories about bad mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationships.  There are many ways to repair those broken relationships or make good relationships stronger.  It is important to use the Bible to help make the relationships be the best that they can be.

I thought it was great how each chapter ended with the self-assessment, “Plan of Action,” prayer, and “What Would Ruth and Naomi Do?”  It was nice to be able to review the chapter and have a plan for the relationship.

I would highly recommend this book to all mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law.  To help strengthen our country we need to strengthen our relationships.  An improvement in these relationships would be seen by children and husbands and would help their relationships with others, thus helping the country.

99 Stories from the Bible by Juliet David and illustrated by Elina Ellis (Review)

99 Stories from the Bible

By Juliet David and Illustrated by Elina Ellis

(received in exchange for an honest review)

Genre- Bible / Young Children

Copyrighted- 2013

Number of pages- 196

Age Group- Juvenile

Description of book- hardback, listed price- $14.99, ISBN 978-1-85985-847-9

Are you looking for a good Bible story book for a young reader?  99 Stories from the Bible, by Juliet David and illustrated by Elina Ellis might be just the book you are looking for.

This book contains 99 different stories from the Bible.  Some of the stories were about:

  • the Creation.
  • Moses.
  • Gideon.
  • Solomon.
  • Jesus.

About the Author-

Juliet David currently lives in London with her family.  She has written many Bible activity books and children’s stories.

My thoughts-

I enjoy reading children’s Bible story books, so I can see what I think are the best books available for young children today.

Juliet David has written a variety of children’s Bible story books, which have all been very good.  I especially liked how this book, 99 Stories from the Bible, would be very good for beginning readers.  It had simple stories and plenty of illustrations to help break up the text.

I was glad to see so many different stories.  I do not like reading Bible story books which have the typical subjects, like Jonah, Moses, and the birth of Jesus.  This book will provide a good base for young readers before they receive their first Bible.

I would highly recommend 99 Stories from the Bible, by Juliet David and illustrated by Elina Ellis.  It would be perfect for the young children in your life.

Rest Not in Peace by Mel Starr (review)

In Rest Not in Peace ($14.99, ISBN 978-1-78264-008-0, The sixth chronicle of Hugh de Singleton, surgeon), by Mel Starr, there has been a death at Bampton Castle, near Oxford.. Master Hugh needs to determine if it was natural causes or murder. To make matters more complicated, Master Hugh had provided a sleeping potion to the deceased, Sir Henry Burley, guest of Lord Gilbert.

What really happened? Did he take too much sleeping powder or was he murdered?

About the Author: Mel Starr currently lives in Michigan. He has studied medieval surgery and medieval English.

My Thoughts: I thought Rest Not in Peace, by Mel Starr was an excellent book.

I always learn so much about so much about medieval history when I read Starr's books. One of my favorite parts about the book is the glossary, found at the front. Starr always lists such wonderful sounding dishes. I would enjoy finding recipes so my family can try the different dishes.

The mystery this time was so tricky that I was not sure who was guilty for killing Sir Henry Burley. I would like to read this book again, slowly, to see if I could figure out who the murderer was at the same time as Master Hugh.

Rest Not in Peace was another good book in the sixth chronicle of Hugh de Singleton, surgeon. I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy reading about Hugh or those who have not read the series yet.
